Understand creators, typical views and outlier scores

See how Sequence measures a creator's typical views, what an outlier score like 20x means, and how to browse creators and their linked accounts.

What is an outlier score?

An outlier score tells you how a post did against its own creator, not against everyone else. Sequence works out each creator's typical views, the median views of their latest uploads, then divides a post's views by that number. A post with 727K views from a creator who typically gets 35.5K scores about 20x.

Scores of 2x and above show on the card's creator line, such as 20x typical. Hover or tap the score to compare the post with the creator's typical views.

Each platform uses the signal it reports:

  • Instagram, TikTok and YouTube use views. YouTube Shorts are compared with the creator's other Shorts.
  • LinkedIn uses reactions, unless the post shows views.
  • Meta ads use how many days an ad ran, compared with the advertiser's typical ad.

A small account with one viral post can score in the hundreds or more. That's expected: the post reached far beyond that creator's usual audience.

Filter by outlier score

In Your library or Explore, open the Outlier filter and choose 2x+, 5x+, 10x+ or 100x+, or type your own minimum and maximum. Each option shows how many posts match.

Read a creator's page

Open a creator to see their followers, typical views, best outlier and how many of their posts reached 2x. The chart shows views on their last 30 posts against the dotted typical line, with outliers in green. Below it, their posts on Sequence are sorted with the best outliers first.

When the same person or brand posts on several platforms, their accounts share one page. Use the tabs at the top to switch between platforms; each has its own followers and typical views. If two accounts were linked by mistake, select Not the same creator? and we'll review it.
