6 Later Alternatives for Teams That Outgrew the Visual Planner
Six Later alternatives matched to what you've outgrown, from client approvals to a busy inbox, with what you'd give up and a priced four-client example.

Later is very good at the job it was built for: arranging Instagram and TikTok content visually and running a link-in-bio page. Teams usually start looking for Later alternatives when the job changes, with more clients, more reviewers or more conversations to answer. Here are six options matched to what you've outgrown, and an honest list of what you'd leave behind.
The short answer
Pick a Later alternative by what changed in your work. If you've added clients, look at tools priced by brand or by band: Metricool and Sequence. If clients now review everything, especially video, look at Sequence or Planable. If the inbox has become a job of its own, look at Vista Social or Sendible. If you only want a cheaper calendar with a link-in-bio page, Buffer is the simple move. And if Later's visual planner is still the part your team loves, price Later's bigger plans before you leave, because they often win on cost.
We make Sequence, so weigh that. Competitor facts come from each vendor's own pricing and help pages, checked October 2026, in USD before tax. For a head-to-head breakdown, see Sequence vs Later. This article covers the wider shortlist and the things you'd leave behind.
What you'll miss when you leave Later
Most lists of Later alternatives skip this part, so start here. Later Social includes a visual planner, a media library and link in bio on every plan (Later pricing). Check which of those your next tool replaces before you move a single post.
| Later strength | Who else on this list has it |
|---|---|
| Link in bio | ✅ Buffer (Start Page, all plans), ✅ Metricool (SmartLinks, Starter and up), ✅ Vista Social (Vista Page, all plans). ❌ Sequence, Planable and Sendible don't list one. |
| Instagram-style grid preview | ✅ Planable (Grid view on Pro), ✅ Sequence (Grid view on Pro). Not confirmed for the others. |
| Visual calendar and media library | Every tool here has a calendar. How visual it feels varies, so test with a real campaign folder. |
If your bio link drives sales or bookings, that row alone may decide it. Sequence has no link-in-bio page, so a Sequence customer keeps a separate one.
Where Later starts to pinch
Social sets add up with every client
Later sells social sets: one profile per network, across eight networks. Starter (US$25 a month, or US$18.75 billed annually) includes one set and one user, allows 30 posts per profile a month, and can't buy add-ons. Growth (US$50, or US$37.50 annually) includes two sets, two users and 180 posts per profile, and extra sets cost US$15 a month and extra users US$5 (Later pricing).
That's good value for one or two brands. The first limit people hit is Starter's 30 posts per profile: a client who posts to Instagram every day uses the whole month's allowance. After that, each new client is another set.
Approvals and the inbox start on Growth
Growth is the first plan with internal and external approvals and the social inbox. So a freelancer on Starter whose first client asks to sign off posts has to move up, even with one client. Later's pages don't say whether an external approver uses one of your user seats, or which DM types the inbox covers. Ask both before you count on them.

The six alternatives, by what you've outgrown
1. Sequence: when review rounds are the slow part
If arranging the grid is easy but every Reel takes three rounds of feedback, Sequence moves that work into the post itself. It's an all-in-one social media management platform where each post has a Plan for the brief, script and references, media review with comments on a timecode or a carousel slide and drawings on the frame, and review stages for the plan, the media and the final post. On Pro, clients can comment and approve from a share link with just their name, no account needed.
It publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Threads, X and Pinterest. Later also covers Snapchat and Sequence doesn't. Pro adds a grid view for Instagram planning, an inbox, and DM Flows, which send a DM when someone comments a keyword on Instagram or Facebook.
Pricing: Free for one brand, one user and one account, with five queued posts per channel. Pro starts at US$49 a month for one brand, graduated per brand, with unlimited members and unlimited scheduled posts; yearly billing is 10 times the monthly price.
2. Planable: when clients want to mark up the copy
Planable shows posts the way they'll look in the feed and lets reviewers comment on and suggest edits to the text (Planable help). It prices per workspace, one per client, with unlimited users: Basic is US$39 a month (US$33 annually) with optional approvals, 4 pages and 60 posts a month, and Pro is US$59 (US$49) with required approvals, bulk approvals, the Grid view, 10 pages and 150 posts a month (Planable pricing).
The inbox and analytics are add-ons at US$9 and US$14 per workspace a month, and the inbox handles DMs on Facebook and Instagram only. Costs scale cleanly with clients, but they scale fast. Our Planable alternatives article covers the move in the other direction.
3. Buffer: when you just want simpler and cheaper
If Later's approvals and inbox were never the point, Buffer is a straightforward step. It prices per channel: Essentials is US$6 a channel a month and Team US$12, with channels beyond 10 at US$4 each in the monthly calculator (Buffer pricing). Team adds unlimited users, approvals and branded reports. Start Page covers link in bio on every plan, and the free plan includes three channels.
It's lighter on client work. Comments come into Buffer's community inbox, DM support wasn't confirmed, and there's no DM automation. Buffer alternatives for agencies explains when teams move on from it.
4. Metricool: when you're adding clients on a budget
Metricool charges for bands of brands, so a new client doesn't change the bill until you cross into the next band. Advanced, the plan with team and client management and post approvals, covers up to 15 brands for US$67 a month (US$53 annually) (Metricool pricing). SmartLinks gives you link in bio from Starter, and paid plans include Flows for Instagram comment-to-DM.
It leans toward analytics, with unlimited history on paid plans and a Looker Studio connector on Advanced. LinkedIn needs a paid plan, X is an add-on, and video review with timecoded comments isn't documented.
5. Vista Social: when conversations have become a job
Vista Social includes an inbox for comments, DMs and reviews on every plan, plus DM automations such as comment-to-DM and story replies (Vista Social help). Vista Page covers link in bio. Like Later it publishes to Snapchat, and it adds Reddit, Tumblr and Bluesky.
Client approvals start on Advanced at US$199 a month with 30 profiles; Professional is US$99 (Vista Social pricing). That's a big step up from Later Growth, so it makes sense when the inbox, not the calendar, is what you're paying for. The plan table and FAQ disagree on user counts, so confirm yours before buying.
6. Sendible: when the client list gets long
Sendible gives every plan unlimited users and organises clients into workspaces (Sendible pricing). Plus (US$99 a month) covers three workspaces with approvals through client dashboards, and Premium (US$199) covers seven with custom branded reports. Its priority inbox handles Instagram comments and DMs.
It doesn't list link in bio or DM automation. It suits an agency signing its tenth client better than a creator-led studio that lives in the Instagram grid.
What four clients cost on each
A common point to start looking: four clients, two people (you and a part-time assistant), three profiles per client (12 in total), and every client approves posts. Monthly billing in USD before tax, checked October 2026.
| Tool | Plan needed | Monthly price | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metricool | Advanced | US$67 | How team members are counted was not confirmed |
| Later | Growth + 2 extra sets | US$80 (US$60 annually) | 180 posts per profile a month |
| Sequence | Pro, 4 brands | US$109 (US$1,090/year) | No link in bio; unlimited users and posts |
| Buffer | Team, 12 channels | US$128 | DM inbox not confirmed |
| Planable | Basic or Pro, 4 workspaces | US$156 or US$236 | Inbox is US$9 per workspace extra |
| Sendible | Premium | US$199 | Plus stops at 3 workspaces |
| Vista Social | Advanced | US$199 | 30 profiles leaves room to grow |
Later is the second cheapest here. It stays competitive as you grow, too: at eight clients and three people, Scale plus two extra sets (US$140 a month) undercuts Growth plus six sets and a user (US$145), and adds unlimited posts and Meta Ads analytics. Sequence would be US$181 a month for eight brands. So switching for price alone rarely works. Switch when the work has changed: clients reviewing video, an inbox that needs a team, or more people than Later's user allowance.
Test with the post that broke your current setup
Take the last post that went wrong in Later: the Reel with three rounds of feedback, the carousel the client approved and then changed, or the DM nobody answered. Run that exact post through two finalists with the people who were involved. The tool that makes that post easy is usually the right one, whatever the feature table says.
For a wider view of the category, our guide to the best all-in-one social media management software scores ten tools against one checklist. If review rounds were the problem, start a Sequence workspace and run that post through a 14-day Pro trial.
