Agencies pay for social media software differently from in-house teams: every new client and every new hire changes the bill. Here are eight tools priced at 5, 15 and 30 clients, with how each one treats your clients.

The best social media management software for agencies is the one whose cost per client falls as you grow and whose client experience does not depend on buying your clients a seat. On those two tests, per-brand and per-workspace tools usually beat per-seat suites. Sequence, SocialPilot and Sendible scale most gently in our numbers; Sprout Social and Hootsuite cost far more per client, but bring listening and enterprise depth.

This guide is for agency owners deciding where to run client work for the next few years. It prices the same agency at 5, 15 and 30 clients, compares how each tool handles client review and reporting, and says who each one suits. Facts were checked on vendor sites in October 2026.

What agencies should judge social media software on

In-house teams buy a tool for one brand. Agencies buy a tool they will resell, in effect, every month. That shifts the criteria:

  • Cost per client as you grow. Per-seat pricing grows with your headcount; per-brand or per-workspace pricing grows with revenue. The second matches how agencies earn.
  • Client separation. Each client's accounts, media, people and reports should sit in their own space, so a junior can work on one client without seeing another.
  • Approval without a seat. Clients approve faster from a link than from a login they forgot. Check the plan, the reviewer limit and what reviewers can actually see.
  • Client reports. Scheduled or live reports in your branding, so the monthly report is not a deck someone rebuilds by hand.
  • Onboarding speed. How quickly you can add a client, connect their accounts and import their existing calendar. Our client onboarding runbook covers the first week in detail.

If your agency also needs inbox, DM automation and analytics for every client, read the wider all-in-one social media management software scorecard. This post stays on the agency economics and the client workflow.

Cost per client at 5, 15 and 30 clients

Assumptions, so you can adjust them: 4 social profiles per client, one client approver each, 3 staff at 5 clients, 5 staff at 15 and 8 staff at 30, monthly billing in US dollars where the vendor publishes it. Hootsuite only publishes annual billing, so its line is annual. Add-ons, tax and promotions are excluded unless named.

How each line was built, with sources:

  • Sequence: graduated per-brand pricing from US$49 for the first brand, unlimited users, 5 accounts per brand, so 4 profiles per client fit. Sequence pricing.
  • SocialPilot: Premium (US$100, 20 accounts, 6 users) plus extra accounts at US$4 and users at US$5. We assumed those add-ons can be bought on Premium; Ultimate works out about the same at 30 clients. SocialPilot pricing.
  • Sendible: one workspace per client, unlimited users. Premium covers 7 workspaces, Elite 15 and Enterprise 50. Sendible pricing.
  • Vista Social: Advanced covers 30 profiles, Scale 70. We found no published plan above that. Vista Social pricing.
  • Planable: Pro at US$59 per workspace, one per client. Analytics (US$14) and inbox (US$9) are extra per workspace. Planable pricing.
  • Agorapulse, Hootsuite and Sprout: Advanced per user or seat, the plan where client review starts. Agorapulse, Hootsuite, Sprout.

Two honest readings. SocialPilot is slightly cheaper than Sequence at every size if its feature set covers you, and Sendible is close at 15 clients. And the per-seat suites are not simply overpriced: you are paying for listening, customer care and enterprise reporting that the cheaper tools do not try to match. The question is whether your retainers include that work.

The 8 best social media management tools for agencies

1. Sequence: best for agencies whose clients review video and scripts

Sequence runs each client as a brand with its own accounts, people and reports, and charges per brand rather than per person. Clients see the work at the stage they care about: the Plan with the brief and script, the media with timecoded comments and drawing, and the final post. On Pro, a share link lets a client comment, draw on a frame and approve without creating an account, which removes the "can you send me the login again" email from most weeks. Inbox, DM Flows, and scheduled reports sit in the same all-in-one social media management platform.

Imports from CSV, Notion, Trello, Asana, Monday.com and ClickUp make onboarding a new client's existing calendar quick. Limits to weigh: eight networks (no Bluesky or Google Business Profile), no social listening or competitor benchmarking, and DM Flows is in Beta. See how agencies use it on the agencies page.

2. Sendible: best for client dashboards and white-label software

Sendible was built for agencies. Every plan has unlimited users, each client gets a workspace, and client dashboards for preview and approval start on Plus. If you want clients to see your brand rather than the vendor's, Sendible is one of the few to sell a white-label app, as an add-on on Elite and Enterprise. Our Sequence vs Sendible comparison covers the trade-offs in detail.

3. SocialPilot: best value per client

SocialPilot's Premium plan gives unlimited client seats, client approval workflows and white-label reports for US$100 a month, and it stays the cheapest per client in our table. It suits agencies selling publishing and reporting at volume. Teams whose clients review a lot of video should test the review step closely. See Sequence vs SocialPilot.

4. Agorapulse: best when community management is part of the retainer

Agorapulse's inbox for comments, DMs and reviews is on every plan, and branded report exports are too. On Advanced, shared calendars let clients approve or reject without an account, up to five; beyond that you move to custom pricing. Per-user pricing makes it costly as the team grows.

5. Vista Social: best for agencies on many networks

Vista Social publishes to a long network list, including Reddit, Snapchat and Bluesky, with DM automation on all plans. Client approvals start on Advanced and white-label reports on Scale, which covers up to 70 profiles. X is a US$29 monthly add-on.

6. Planable: best for copy-led approvals with unlimited users

Planable feels like a shared document, which clients find easy. Pricing is per workspace with unlimited users, so it maps neatly to clients, but analytics and inbox are paid add-ons and the cost per client does not fall with scale. Its feedback tools are text annotations and suggested edits; we found no video timecodes.

7. Hootsuite: best for large agencies needing a broad suite

Hootsuite brings listening, a strong inbox and Instagram comment-to-DM automation on all plans. For agencies, approvals start on Advanced at US$399 per user a month billed annually, and we could not confirm that clients approve without a seat. It makes sense when enterprise clients expect it.

8. Sprout Social: best for customer care and premium reporting

Sprout is the most polished reporting and care platform here. External client approvers need Advanced, and Sprout's help centre limits them to three, which is a real constraint if every client has their own approver. Agencies often keep Sprout for one or two enterprise clients and run the rest elsewhere.

Run a two-week trial with one real client

Feature lists will not tell you how a client experiences the tool. Pick one live client and run their next batch through your top two choices:

  1. Add the client, connect their accounts and import their current calendar. Time it.
  2. Send one video, one carousel and one caption-only post for approval, using the client's real approver.
  3. Make one change after approval and see whether the client is asked again.
  4. Publish, then send the client a report. Our guide to agency client reporting suggests what to put in it.

Then divide the plan price by your client count at 15 clients, not today's count. That number, and how many emails the client had to send, usually settles it.

Where to start

If your clients review video and scripts and you want one per-brand price that covers approvals, inbox and reports, Sequence is worth the trial. Compare Sequence plans or start a free workspace and set up your first client brand.
